Natsumi Ikoma is Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at International Christian University (ICU) in Japan. She served as Director of International Educational Exchange, Director of Center for Gender Studies, Chair of the Department of Humanities, and Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts before assuming her current role.
Natsumi initiated many institutional reforms, including designing a new timetable for better teaching and learning experiences, and changing systems to be more LGBTQ friendly and more supportive to teaching staff with care obligations. She has dedicated herself to listening to the needs of the students and faculty members, and making necessary implementations possible.
She has been teaching at ICU since 2003 and has been a full professor at the Department of Humanities since 2016. She received her PhD in English Studies from Durham University in 2001. Her research area includes the representation of the body in British and Japanese literature, feminist theory, and the topic of the posthuman. She was awarded the Best Journal Article Award from the Angela Carter Society in 2022.
