You do not need to replicate practical exams (such as Cambridge IGCSE ICT Papers 2 and 3 or Cambridge International AS & A Level IT practical tests), either in person or remotely. Instead, practical skills should be evidenced through alternative, teacher-designed tasks that reflect the level and range of skills in the syllabus, without attempting to mirror exam formats.
For Cambridge IGCSE ICT (0417/0983) and Cambridge International AS & A Level IT (9626):
- Confidential exam source files must not be used under any circumstances.
- Practical skills (e.g. document production, databases, spreadsheets, web authoring) should be demonstrated through centre-created tasks and assignments.
- These tasks may be practical in nature but do not need to be structured as formal practical examinations.
Where the work has been set specifically for assessment purposes, and the candidate knows that this piece of work could be used in the portfolio, then centre supervision is required. For example, this could be through the camera of a laptop to confirm that the work is the candidate’s own, and that no assistance has been given.
We recommend that assessments completed remotely are recorded, so that the recording can be reviewed in cases of suspected malpractice. The conditions under which the work was completed must be clearly explained in the rationale document.
