Ryan Hargraves serves as Executive Director, University Admissions & Outreach at the University of Toronto (U of T), where he provides strategic leadership for the University’s tri-campus undergraduate recruitment, outreach and admissions enterprise. Prior to joining U of T in 2021, Ryan served as Executive Director of Admissions and Orientation at the University of Vermont (UVM) and as Senior Associate Dean of Admission at the University of Virginia (UVA), where he chaired the University’s Athletic Advisory Council. He also helped establish UVA’s Undergraduate Admission Outreach Office and has led numerous initiatives designed to expand access and opportunity for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Ryan’s professional interests include global student mobility, enrolment strategy and higher education policy. In his current role, he oversees recruitment and outreach initiatives spanning nearly 200 countries and territories. He has also served as faculty for the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Emerging Leaders Program and currently serves on the Strategic Higher Education Advisory Council for Cambridge University Press & Assessment. A lover of language and culture, Ryan is fluent in English and German and is also proficient in Spanish.
Ryan holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Toronto. His research examines the governance and decision-making processes that shape university admissions, with a particular focus on faculty-led admissions committees and methodological innovation in higher education research.
