The syllabus focuses on the government and politics of the USA, including the Constitution, the federal government, political participation, and civil rights.
The syllabus:
- expands students’ knowledge and understanding of political ideas, institutions, and procedures
- encourages students to evaluate the structure and functions of the federal government
- enables students to explore the evolution of political beliefs and social movements that have shaped the political system
- encourages students to appreciate alternative political perspectives and the role of debate, compromise, and conflict in shaping public policy
- features a wide variety of approaches to studying government and politics, including the analysis of political texts, research data, and Supreme Court case studies
- develops independent thinking and enables students to make informed judgments on political issues
- highlights the importance of civic engagement and the responsibilities of citizenship in a democratic society
- builds a strong foundation of knowledge and skills for further study of politics, law, or related disciplines.
