Cambridge International A Level French Language & Literature (9898) helps learners to develop transferrable communication skills in French to a CEFR Independent/Proficient User level. The syllabus:
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
This syllabus replaces Cambridge International A Level French (9716). The last series for A Level French (9716) is June 2024.
We have completely redesigned the syllabus to develop language skills at the Independent/Proficient User level of the CEFR. We have streamlined the assessment.
The syllabus now has three components, each testing one of the Assessment Objectives: Reading, Writing and Literature. Each paper is weighted at approximately 33% of the qualification.
For full details of the changes, please see the 2025-2027 syllabus above.
We are developing a comprehensive range of resources to help teachers deliver this updated syllabus.
We aim to provide a scheme of work and other relevant classroom resources. Example Candidate Responses will be available following the first examination in 2025. Visit the School Support Hub from June 2025 onwards for details.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
