With universities keen to recruit the best students worldwide, we convened a large careers fair in Beijing at the start of this month. Seventy-eight of the world’s top-ranking universities from 13 different destinations sent representatives to meet with over 200 careers counsellors and 1000 students and their parents at RCF Experimental School Beijing.
Cambridge qualifications are formally recognised by over 2350 universities in 90 countries, including all UK universities and over 1000 universities in the US. Beyond qualifications, the critical thinking skills and independent research abilities of our students are also valued by leading universities as described by senior admissions staff in this video.
Participating universities included University College London, Warwick, Durham, King’s College London, the University of Edinburgh, Birmingham, Boston University, and Michigan State, as well as universities from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau SARs of China, Turkey, Ireland, Canada, Greece, Spain and France.
Kevin Ebenezer, Head of Global Recognitions at Cambridge International Education, who presented at the event said: 'The Cambridge East Asia College Counsellor Conference and College Fair in Beijing was an incredible success, bringing together counsellors from across Cambridge schools in China for enrichment workshops and breakout sessions. We had productive discussions with participating universities and offered valuable insights to parents on global education destinations. Over one thousand participants engaged with a variety of universities at the College Fair, making it a truly global event. We were also honoured to have keynote speeches from the University of Toronto and Monash University, which were well received everyone involved.'
Cambridge’s latest Destination Survey (2023 data) shows that the UK is the leading destination for students from China with Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications. University College London was their first choice and Engineering, Business and Administration Studies and Physical Sciences were the three most popular degrees studied. However, free text comments from schools who responded to the survey suggested students have an increased interest in studying more medically oriented courses and in studying in The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, France, and Japan as new destinations.
While the destinations for Chinese students studying abroad is becoming more diverse and comprehensive, China remained the largest source of international students for countries such as the US, and the UK, during the 2022-23 academic year, according to a report released by Beijing-based Center for China and Globalization (CCG).
