Cambridge International AS & A Levels are considered college-level courses of study in the United States. Good grades in carefully chosen Cambridge International A Levels can result in up to one year of university course credit.
Credit is typically awarded based on each subject and the examination grade earned.
Credit or advanced standing for Cambridge International A Levels (sometimes referred to as ‘AICE examinations’) can be between 4 and 10 credit hours but is usually 6 to 8 credit hours. Where credit is awarded for Cambridge International AS Levels, it is typically half as much credit as is awarded for Cambridge International A Levels.
Each university in the US sets its own policy. You should contact the admissions office at the university of interest to get fuller details of their systems for awarding credit, including the timeline for providing documents to support your advanced standing application.
Please note that many institutions will offer a credit policy grid that displays the credit offered. However, other institutions will not display their policy but still may grant credit. We recommend checking with the registrars at your chosen institution to confirm what credit is offered.
If you are a US resident, some institutions may ask you to provide an official transcript from Cambridge International (rather than your statement of results or certificate) in order to consider your application for credit. You can request this using our Grade Transcript Service.
