What is AI-assisted marking?
AI-assisted marking uses AI to assess and mark candidate responses quickly and consistently. The AI marking approach developed for our Digital Mocks Service uses the same mark scheme and criteria our examiners use to assess and award marks. Every AI mark is verified and if there is any uncertainty, a human examiner awards the final mark.
Why are we confident in this approach?
We have rigorously tested our AI-assisted marking approach to ensure it meets examiner standards and delivers consistent grading of candidate responses whilst minimising the risk of bias or error. During testing, we conducted analysis of over 200,000 AI-awarded marks with examiner awarded marks to ensure marking comparability.
This approach is designed to improve consistency and support faster, and more scalable mock assessments.
Why use AI-assisted marking?
This builds on our existing auto-marking capabilities and demonstrates our commitment to developing innovations that make our Digital Mocks Service quicker, more consistent, and beneficial to learners. We are exploring how AI-assisted marking can deliver instant, detailed feedback to support revision, identify learning gaps, and help improve learning outcomes. This approach also supports our ambition to offer an on-demand mock series with increased centre availability, giving learners greater flexibility and confidence in their exam preparation.
Is student and centre data safe?
Yes. Student data is handled securely, with encrypted processing, multiple quality checks, and restricted access.
How long will it take to receive results?
Results for the July 2026 mock series will be delivered within our standard 14-day turnaround time. As we expand our AI‑assisted marking capabilities, we aim to return results to you even faster.
Will AI-assisted marking be used in future Cambridge IGCSE and International AS and A Level exams?
AI-assisted marking is currently being developed to improve our Digital Mocks service only.
