To mark World Environment Day young people have been reflecting on the many emotional responses that concern for the planet can trigger.
For many, the climate crisis is at its most urgent when they can see real world consequences, particularly on their own doorstep, such as with pollution and weather events. Students appreciate the opportunity to talk about these concerns."When teachers connect the topic to real life situations, especially more like local issues, the discussions feel more personal and impactful," one student.
To support teachers to have more meaningful climate change conversations with their students, whether planned or unplanned, Cambridge has launched a free discussion guide – Caring for emotions in climate change education. A guide for educators. Developed with the Climate Psychology Alliance, the guide gives teachers the practical tools to open these conversations with confidence and care. Because talking about climate change, and our responses to it, is one of the most powerful things we can do.
