A new Strategic Higher Education Advisory Council has been set up by Cambridge International to build even closer links with the global higher education (HE) community. The Council met for the first time in Cambridge on 26 to 28 July, bringing together senior enrolment staff from 16 leading HE institutions in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and the UK.
As well as helping to extend global recognition of Cambridge programmes, the Council will advise on the development of qualifications to meet the changing needs of higher education. The Council will also support Cambridge’s goal of enabling more students to progress to university and fulfil their potential.
Cambridge International’s Global Head of Recognitions, Kevin Ebenezer, said: ‘Our focus at Cambridge has always been on equipping students with the knowledge and skills to help them succeed when they get to university – it’s not just about getting them through the door. This Council brings together renowned experts in university admissions, and I’m excited by what we can achieve together in terms of widening access to university and shaping the next generation of Cambridge programmes.
'This year’s inaugural meeting also gave us the opportunity to showcase the wider Cambridge University Press & Assessment organisation, with presentations from colleagues in Academic publishing, English language learning and assessment, and the Cambridge Partnership for Education.'
The Council will provide ongoing advice to Cambridge and meet once a year. Some of its members have worked closely with Cambridge for more than 15 years as part of our US Higher Education Advisory Council, helping guide the development of Cambridge International AS & A Levels and extend recognition in the US.
Commenting on the first meeting, John Barnhill, Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management at Florida State University, US said: 'I am so honored to join my esteemed colleagues in partnering with Cambridge Assessment International Education to shape the future of global education. Seeing our shared passion for bringing access to high quality impactful education to the world in action was inspiring to me, and I look forward to helping even more students find their pathway to success.'
