The subjects for the initial roll out were chosen based on extensive market research and readiness, technical feasibility, and pedagogical alignment.
We are also developing digital exams that offer new possibilities for the way we assess digitally while maintaining their integrity and validity.

Digital mocks launch
In January, Cambridge launched its first digital mock exams in three subjects, marking the beginning of our digital assessment journey. A total of 585 tests were sat across ten centres in eight countries.
Wider adoption of digital mocks
Since the 2023 launch, over 20,000 learners across 60 countries have taken digital mock exams in 16 subjects for Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Level.
Early Adopter Programme (EAP) Launch: The EAP was developed in 2024 and launched in 2025. Cambridge selected a group of schools to pilot digital exams.
Phase one
Digital exams begin
Schools in the EAP take the first digital Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Level exams. Subjects include:
Cambridge IGCSE - Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Physics. Cambridge International AS and A Level - English General Paper.
Phase two
Global launch
Digital exams become available to all schools. Subjects from Phase 1 remain available with new additions:
Cambridge IGCSE - First Language English, English as a Second Language. Cambridge International AS and A Level - Accounting, Economics. North American schools - US History.
Phase three
Rollout continues
Subjects from Phases 1 and 2 remain available. New additions:
Cambridge IGCSE - Spanish, Global Perspectives. Cambridge International AS and A Level - Media Studies, Psychology, Global Perspectives. North American schools - US Government and Politics.
Phase four
Further expansion
Subjects from previous phases remain available. New additions:
Cambridge IGCSE - Computer Science, French, Malay, Spanish. Cambridge International AS and A Level - English Language, Sociology.
Phase five
Wider availability
All previously introduced subjects remain available. New additions:
Cambridge IGCSE - Business, Economics, History, Psychology, English Literature. Cambridge International AS and A Level - Business, English Literature, History.
Phase six
Our vision
Our vision for 2033 - 85% of Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Level subjects available in both digital and paper formats*, empowering schools with greater choice and flexibility.
*Please note: Some qualifications, such as Media Studies, will include digital-only components where this enhances the assessment experience. This roadmap is subject to change.
