A growing demand for international education brought a record rise in exam entries in our June series this year. More than 316,000 students around the world received Cambridge International AS & A Level results and, as the majority move on to study at universities worldwide this month, we have published a series of articles and podcasts showing where a Cambridge education is taking our students. In addition, we’d love to hear news of other students moving on with Cambridge qualifications.
New Destinations Survey data
Findings from our latest annual Destination Survey reveal that 92% of students from Cambridge schools who completed the survey went on to university in 2023. Of these students, 66% attended a top-500 ranked university – up from 61% in 2022.
The data show that the UK, USA, Canada and Australia remain the most common destinations for students with Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications. They also reveal the subjects that Cambridge students applied to study at university; subject choice appears to be widening as students prepare for diverse careers.
Get in and get on
We took a closer look at the study destinations of a group of former Cambridge students from India and discovered a range of reasons for their choice of overseas university and degree subject. In addition to qualifications, a Cambridge education equips students with the wider critical and creative thinking skills they need to thrive and make a positive impact in a changing world. This was something the students had in common - their ability not just to ‘get in’ but to ‘get on’ once at university, because being accepted onto a chosen university course is just the start of a career journey.
Universities recognise the value of the broader skills that Cambridge students bring. Watch a short video to hear what senior enrolment staff from leading universities say about students with Cambridge qualifications, and how they are able to 'get in and get on.'
Sometimes, studying Cambridge International A Levels opens up a new world to students and can change their view of where their interest lies. Read a blog by Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award winner, Judy (Ruoning Ji), who found that her Cambridge International A Level in Marine Science –a subject seeing an increase in the number of entries--has led her to study a Biological Sciences degree instead of taking a path into finance.

Cambridge qualifications are recognised worldwide
Cambridge works closely with universities and colleges in every part of the world to ensure that they understand and accept our qualifications. In fact, our qualifications are formally accepted at more than 2376 universities and higher education institutions worldwide.
At the start of this month, we held a universities fair in Bejiing where 78 of the world’s top universities came to showcase their institutions to Cambridge students and careers counsellors. Read more about the event.
Ultimately, choosing the right university to match a student’s interests – both personal and academic – is an exciting but busy process. You can find support to help you apply to universities with Cambridge qualifications on our recognition pages. And teachers and students-alike may find it useful to listen to our latest podcast where experts discuss the value and uses of predicted, or forecast, grades in the university application process.
We wish all our students moving on to university the very best of luck settling into their new environment and taking their Cambridge International AS & A Levels to the next level.
