We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Zhao Jing as our new Regional Director for East Asia. Based in Beijing, Dr Zhao will lead the Cambridge team in East Asia to strengthen and build relationships with schools, universities, key educational institutions and government authorities in China and the wider East Asia region, including Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea.

The VII Annual Schools Conference, organized by the British Council Colombia, brought together more than 130 delegates from 36 Colombian Associate Schools that implement Cambridge Assessment International Education programmes. It was held over the last three days of March at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the Gimnasio Colombo Británico in Bogotá.
The signing of strategic cooperation memoranda with three education groups in China last month will open up more opportunities for Chinese students to study Cambridge programmes.

On Friday 19 May the British Council and Cambridge Assessment International Education hosted the inaugural British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in Lagos, Nigeria.The event recognised the outstanding achievements of students in Nigeria in the November 2015 and June 2016 Cambridge exam series, and commended British Council partner schools that exemplify best practice in equality, diversity, inclusion and child protection.

Sub-Saharan Africa’s first Professional Development Conference took place over four days at Arundel School in Harare, Zimbabwe, at the start of May. Two hundred and eighty delegates from various countries in the Southern African region came to the event.

Cambridge School Communities are being set up around the world to encourage collaboration – both by bringing Cambridge schools together, and by offering schools a new way of giving feedback to Cambridge regional teams.

Aspire Private British School in Paphos, Cyprus, has been entering candidates for Cambridge qualifications as private candidates for a number of years. They have now registered as a Cambridge Associate School and are delighted to be the 750th Cambridge school in Europe. Principal Sharon Hadjiyiakoumi shares her experience with us.
In March we were invited to the Ministry of Education in Italy to share our experience of working with Italian schools – specifically those in the state sector – and to talk generally about the future of education in the country.
