Hülya Incekara is Director of International Affairs Office at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Here she tells us a bit more about IUE and why Izmir is an excellent choice for international students.

Izmir University of Economics

About the university

'Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has been among the top foundation universities in Türkiye since 2001. As IUE was established by Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation, it has a huge business network that helps our graduates find job opportunities and internships easily.'

'The medium of instruction at IUE is English for all programmes , except for those offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Law, and for associate degrees. In addition, the students have to learn a second foreign language from seven options (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Russian). Our students are also given the chance to study a Double Major in a different field which provides the opportunity to have two undergraduate degrees at the end of four years.'

'International students at IUE describe their experience of the university as being an outstanding privilege and consider Izmir as their second “home”. Being a friendly, tolerant, and enjoyable destination, Izmir is a multi-cultural city that hosts a lot of international visitors from all around the world for educational, professional, or touristic reasons.'

Undergraduate courses

'IUE has eight faculties and a School of Applied Management Sciences that offer undergraduate degrees in different fields such as Business, Engineering, Law, Communication, Health Sciences, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts and Design, Gastronomy. Each programme under these faculties has unique features in terms of fully equipped academics, advanced infrastructure, and up-to-date curriculum.'

International students

'More than 100 international students from all around the world are admitted to IUE annually.'

'Although we have students from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Ivory Coast, African counties, Pakistan, and Middle Eastern countries, we have a very diverse distribution of countries and cultures which creates an international atmosphere on the IUE campus. All prospective international students are welcome to join the IUE family.'

Cambridge International students

'Every year, we have a lot of applications from students with GCE A levels (Cambridge International AS & A Levels) that are accepted for admission to undergraduate programmes. Students from Pakistan and Middle Eastern countries in particular apply with GCE A levels and if they submit the required scores in a timely way, IUE even provides scholarships for the students that can be used during the four years of their studies.'

'We offer scholarships to GCE A level holders according to their scores on the subjects related to the programmes they apply for. These scholarships cover only tuition fees.'

'Students with Cambridge International qualifications perform very well and are conscious of what they want to focus on, both from an educational and professional perspective. Due to the quality of education they have received, these students easily succeed in their studies at IUE which paves the way for better qualifications for the future.'

Advice to Cambridge International students

'We advise our prospective Cambridge International students to apply as early as possible if they want to benefit from scholarships. Since there are limited seats available for international students, early application will help them conduct a smooth process.'

Why should Cambridge International students choose IUE?

'Our university is a top choice due to the quality of our courses and of our international academic staff. In addition, we offer a wide variety of courses and maintain close academic relations with prestigious universities around the world. Our degrees are recognised internationally. Another great advantage is that, as I mentioned, all our programmes are taught in English, which makes it easy for Cambridge Internationals students to continue their English-language education with IUE.'

'We are looking forward to welcoming you to the IUE family.'
