Cambridge O Level Design & Technology enables learners to identify, consider and solve problems through creative thinking, planning and design, and by working with different media, materials and tools to produce a made product.
Learners gain technical and design awareness and develop skills such as initiative, resourcefulness, enquiry and ingenuity. They also develop the communication skills central to the design process.
Cambridge O Level Design & Technology is designed to accommodate a range of interests, materials and resources. It provides an ideal basis for further study and equips learners with technical knowledge and practical designing and making skills for the world of work.
Please note: This syllabus has been aligned with IGCSE Design & Technology (0445) Resistant Materials option, so support materials for that syllabus option are suitable for use with Cambridge O Level Design & Technology (6043).
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
We are withdrawing Cambridge O Level Design & Technology (6043). The last exam will be in November 2023. We communicated this withdrawal decision to schools in October 2021.
You may be interested in Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology (0445) as an alternative. Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology is available in both June and November series.
For some subjects, the syllabus states that grade descriptions will be made available after first assessment in 2020, 2021 or 2022.
Publication of grade descriptions was paused in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the temporary changes to the grading standard that have been in place for 2020, 2021 and 2022. We are currently working on producing these grade descriptions. This work will make sure that grade descriptions reflect examination outcomes appropriately and are based on the more stable grading standard that we expect to have in place for June 2023 onwards.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
