We recently hosted a series of Cambridge Early Years workshops in Jordan and Egypt focused on the importance of the formative years in a child's life, and the profound impact educators and parents can have during this developmental stage.
Dr. Alison Borthwick, a distinguished researcher in early childhood education and co-author of Cambridge Early Years resources, led the workshops and outlined the role of early years education in shaping a child's cognitive, emotional, physical, and social development. Her sessions also explored the importance of play in early years education, making a smooth transition to primary classrooms, and accessing and implementing high-quality teaching and learner resources to create enriching educational environments.
The events drew significant interest from schools, with almost 150 attendees from 90 schools in Egypt, and more than 40 attendees from 21 schools in Jordan.
Reflecting on the success of the workshops, Fatima Awada, Cambridge’s Head of Business Development for Educational Resources, said: ‘These workshops exemplify our commitment to empowering educators with the knowledge and tools they need to nurture the early years of a child’s life. By focusing on this critical developmental stage, we not only advance educational practices in the region but also equip teachers with the confidence and expertise needed for a seamless transition of children into primary education. Events like these are pivotal in fostering an environment where educators feel prepared and supported as they guide children through this significant phase of their educational journey.’
