Cambridge International A Level French builds on the language skills gained at Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level or Cambridge International AS Level, and is the ideal foundation for university-level study, or to improve career prospects.
Learners will gain an understanding of how to use the language in a variety of situations. They will be expected to handle texts and other source materials, extracting information in order to respond to specific tasks. Through their studies, learners can expect to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language.
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
We have redeveloped our Cambridge International AS and A Level French offer to make sure there is smoother progression from Cambridge IGCSE based on learners' level of French and a closer alignment with the CEFR framework. We are withdrawing Cambridge International AS Level French Language (8682) and A Level French (9716) to replace them with our newly designed Cambridge International AS Level French Language (8028) and A Level French Language & Literature (9898) syllabuses.
The last assessment of Cambridge International AS Level French Language (8682) will be November 2024. The last assessment of Cambridge International A Level French (9716) will be June 2024. The first assessment of the new Cambridge International AS Level French Language (8028) and Cambridge International A Level French Language & Literature (9898) syllabuses will be June 2025.
We are withdrawing Cambridge International A Level French (9716) from the November exam series. The last November exam series will be in 2023. From 2024, we will only offer this syllabus in the June exam series. We communicated this series withdrawal decision to schools in June 2021.
Please note that Cambridge International AS Level French (8682) will continue to be offered in both the June and November exam series.
From 2020, we have made some changes to the wording and layout of the front covers of our question papers to reflect the new Cambridge International branding and to make instructions clearer for candidates - learn more.
