In revising our Cambridge International AS & A Level syllabuses we have consulted with some of the world’s leading higher education institutes – including the University of Cambridge, Harvard and MIT. They told us that what really helps learners succeed at university is a firm grasp of the subject’s key concepts.
Key concepts are essential ideas that help students develop a deep understanding of their subject and make links between different aspects. Key concepts may open up new ways of thinking about, understanding or interpreting the important things to be learned. Our revised syllabuses clearly identify the key concepts so that teachers can build them into their teaching.
Cambridge International AS & A Levels provide a strong platform for students to progress to university and beyond. Students develop abilities which universities value highly, including:
- a deep understanding of their subjects
- higher order thinking skills – analysis, critical thinking, problem solving
- presenting ordered and coherent arguments
- independent learning and research.
