Cambridge International AS & A Level Music develops and deepens musical skills in a wide range of music styles and traditions. It allows learners to explore and build on their interests and encourages independent expression and the development of a critical, reflective practice. It is designed to accommodate a range of music and resources, and the different skills and interests of teachers.
The key concepts for Cambridge International AS & A Level Music are:
Cambridge International A Level Music provides a foundation for the study of music or related courses in higher education. It is also suitable as part of a course of general education. Depending on local university entrance requirements, students may be able to use it to progress directly to university courses in music or some other subjects. It is also suitable as part of a course of general education.
When can you start teaching the updated syllabus?
This syllabus is available for teaching from September 2018. Find out more about the availability of the old and new syllabuses by exam series.
Please note: candidates may not combine AS Level components from Cambridge International AS Level Music (9703) and A Level components from Cambridge International AS & A Level Music (9483). Candidates cannot carry forward 2019 results for Cambridge International AS Level Music (9703) beyond series in 2019.
We recommend that learners should have studied Cambridge IGCSE or Cambridge O Level Music or the equivalent before progressing to this qualification.
To help you deliver the new Cambridge International AS & A Level Music syllabus, we are developing a comprehensive support package including a resource list and a coursework training handbook. The resources will be available in March 2018 in time for first teaching and can be accessed through the Teacher Support site.
