Thinking about thinking

Online Conference November 2021

Our brains continue to develop as we transition from childhood to adolescence to adulthood, and with it our capacity to think about how and why we do things, take risks and control our behaviours. How we work with our learners in schools is fundamental to their future outcomes. With our support they form habits and attitudes to learning, an ability to self-regulate and to know what to do when they don’t know what to do.

Our focus for this online conference is cognitive development and metacognition. We will hear from an expert in cognitive neuroscience about how our brains develop and how the environment in which we evolve can impact on our engagement. We will think about thinking and what teaching approaches we might use in our schools to encourage resilience and independence in our learners. We will also explore, in discussions and workshops, how metacognition can help learners to enhance their likely success in education and life.
