The Cambridge O Level Religious Studies syllabus focuses on Christian origins. It encourages learners to take a thoughtful approach to the study of the life and teaching of Jesus, as contained in the Gospel of Luke, and also considers the birth and development of the early church, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.
As a result, learners develop an enquiring and critical approach to the study of biblical texts and are able to explore the religious, ethical and historical questions raised. The syllabus is open to learners of any religion (or none), and both the New International Version and the Revised Standard Version of the Bible are used for quotations.
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
From 2020 this syllabus will only be available in administrative zones 3 and 4. Check the administrative zone for your school.
We have redeveloped and renamed Cambridge O Level Religious Studies (Bible Knowledge) (2048). The new version will be called Cambridge O Level Biblical Studies (2035).
The last assessment of Cambridge O Level Religious Studies (Bible Knowledge) (2048) will be November 2023. First assessment of the new Cambridge O Level Biblical (2035) studies syllabus will be in 2024. We communicated this change to schools in June 2021. You can read the communication here.
From 2020, we have made some changes to the wording and layout of the front covers of our question papers to reflect the new Cambridge International branding and to make instructions clearer for candidates - learn more.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
