The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for Action on Climate Change

Climate change action shots

Climate change is one of the most significant global issues of our time and we are all responsible for helping to solve it.

The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for Action on Climate Change is an excellent opportunity to show how you and your school are coming together to tackle one of the world’s most important humanitarian crises. This new award from Cambridge International invites students from across Malaysia to submit a short video and written summary to raise awareness of your action on climate change.

At Cambridge International, we believe that by increasing the quality and accessibility of education and developing people’s knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards climate change, the world can see more effective, and swifter action. By working together with Cambridge schools our mission is to give a voice to the world’s future leaders and policy-makers and inspire them to make a difference.

Cambridge IGCSE, International AS or A Level students from across Malaysia can enter through our website until 12 August 2022.

Why you should take part

The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for Action on Climate Change:

  • gives you the opportunity to develop your passion for action on climate change through practical work
  • promotes the attributes of the Cambridge learner through collaboration and communication, promoting innovation and creativity, giving you skills you will use throughout your life
  • provides winners with a certificate and the opportunity to showcase your experience – frequently useful in the next stages of your education.

The prizes

Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of international judges from Cambridge University Press & Assessment. In Round One our regional panel will shortlist the best 10 entries. The entries selected in Round One will proceed to Round Two, where the judges will select a first, second and third place winner. The winning entries will receive:

1st place

400 USD voucher and certificates for the winning student(s).

A school plaque and a selection of titles for the teaching staff of the winning school from Cambridge University Press’s Earth and Environmental Sciences reading list.

2nd place

250 USD voucher and certificates for the winning student(s).

3rd place

150 USD voucher and certificates for the winning student(s).

All shortlisted entries will receive a certificate of recognition for their entry. The winners and shortlisted entries may be displayed on the Cambridge International website and feature in future publicity materials. The winners, and those that were shortlisted, will be notified by email. Winners will be presented their awards at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Ceremony Malaysia in late 2022.

What judges are looking for

Our judges are looking for entries that tell the story of a climate action initiative that is making a difference to your school, community or globally. Your entry should clearly explain what the problem is and how you are addressing it, including an indication of the impact that your action has had. The winning entries will be the ones who make the audience and judges inspired and enthused about your climate action project. Entries should be clear and cohesive and encourage other school students to start their own climate action project. A passion for Action on Climate Change will shine through in the overall winning entry. Your video and written submission should be in English. Read the Criteria for judging (PDF, 229KB).
