Progression tests

Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Progression Tests are internal assessments that will help measure your learners’ progress, strengths and weaknesses.

Using Progression Tests to identify and address gaps in learning

Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Lower Secondary Progression Tests are designed for use in the classroom, as part of the teaching day. They provide valid internal assessment of knowledge, skills and understanding in English as a first or second language, mathematics and science.

They are useful tools when returning to school as they will enable you to measure your learners’ progress, strengths and weaknesses. You can use them to identify gaps in learning and to help guide your teaching to address these gaps.

The results will provide detailed information about the performance of each of your learners and the understanding of your class overall. They will enable you to compare the strengths and weaknesses of individuals and groups and identify where to focus further teaching.

You can administer Progression Tests at any time in the year, as many times as needed. They are great for tracking and reviewing your learners’ progress over time and will enable you to give structured feedback to learners and parents and provide evidence for learning.

Progression tests are available for Cambridge International schools teaching:

  • Cambridge Primary
  • Cambridge Lower Secondary

For Cambridge Lower Secondary, on-screen versions of the tests are also available, this may be useful if you are having to adapt to blended teaching. There is also a reporting tool available, where you can upload learners’ test results, analyse them and create reports. You can also compare a learners' results against their class, school or other schools around the world and on a year-by-year basis.
