School profile template instructions

Schools can submit a school profile along with each student's university application. The school profile can be used to support a student's overseas or domestic application with teacher references and academic transcript.

You may use the official Cambridge template and follow the instructions for completion below or you could work with your school's marketing department to create one.

Always view formatting marks - the ¶ symbol on the ‘Home Ribbon’. Always view table gridlines – some template elements are based on tables without borders which will show as blue dotted lines. These will not print.

Tailoring the template

Insert your school logo and address details in the appropriate grey placeholders and update all other relevant information.

The colours used in this template are part of the Microsoft default colour theme. These 10 colours can be changed to your school colours if required by selecting Page Layout – Colours – Create New Theme Colours.

Working with the text

To paste text from other documents, position your cursor on an empty paragraph marker of ‘Normal style and always use ‘Paste Special – Unformatted Text’. It will then be pasted in the style of the cursor position. Importing alien styles from other documents can distort and even corrupt template settings. The style thumbnails on the Home Ribbon show all available template text styles.

Working with tables

Tables inserted with the native Word function can be reformatted to template style by applying the appropriate ‘Table Style’ from ‘Table Tools - Design’ (CIE-Table).

Header row and First Column settings can be switched on/off by selecting the appropriate options on the left of the ‘Table Tools – Design’ ribbon.

Tables from Excel can be pasted straight into the document. Then right click on the table, select ‘AutoFit – AutoFit to Window’. Then re-format the table with the ‘Table Style’ option and the appropriate ‘Table Text’ styles.

Working with charts
Pre-prepared charts are available in this template. To adapt the data right click on the chart itself and select ‘Edit Data’ from the drop down menu.
