This syllabus is available worldwide for examination in November. It aims to develop the skills of problem-solving, designing and graphic communication. Learners have the opportunity to develop their own ideas as they produce a design portfolio in response to a design situation. This may involve work in two or three dimensions, so learners utilise a range of views and perspectives for use in everyday design areas. Particular examples might include products, packaging, symbols, logos, signs, etc.
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
We are withdrawing Cambridge O Level Design and Communication (7048). The last examination for this subject will be November 2021 (there is no option for candidates to resit after this date). You may want to consider Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology (0445) as a possible alternative. We communicated this withdrawal decision to schools in May 2021.
From 2020, we have made some changes to the wording and layout of the front covers of our question papers to reflect the new Cambridge International branding and to make instructions clearer for candidates - learn more.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
