Cambridge International AS Level First Language Spanish is designed for learners whose first language is Spanish. Cambridge International AS Level First Language Spanish builds on skills already established at Cambridge IGCSE level.
Learnerss develop clear, accurate and effective communication in speech and writing. They learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed.
Learners are also encouraged to read widely, both for their own enjoyment and to further their awareness of the ways in which Spanish can be used. Camrbidge International AS Level First Language Spanish also develops more general analysis and communication skills such as synthesis, inference, and the ability to order facts and present opinions effectively.
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
We have redeveloped our Cambridge International AS and A Level Spanish offer to make sure there is smoother progression from Cambridge IGCSE based on learners' level of Spanish and a closer alignment with the CEFR framework. We are withdrawing Cambridge International AS Level Spanish Language (8685), Spanish First Language (8665), Spanish Literature (8673) and A Level Spanish (9719) to replace them with our newly designed Cambridge International AS Level Spanish Language (8022) and A Level Spanish Language & Literature (9844) syllabuses.
The last assessment of Cambridge International AS Level Spanish Language (8685), Spanish First Language (8665), Spanish Literature (8673) and A Level Spanish (9719) will be November 2023. The first assessment of the new Cambridge International AS Level Spanish Language (8022) and Cambridge International A Level Spanish Language & Literature (9844) syllabuses will be June 2024. We communicated this change to schools in May 2021.
From 2020, we have made some changes to the wording and layout of the front covers of our question papers to reflect the new Cambridge International branding and to make instructions clearer for candidates - learn more.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
