The Cambridge International AS Level Chinese syllabus enables learners to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the written language, and improve their communication skills.
They learn how to improve their use of Chinese in a variety of situations, understanding how to read texts and other source materials, and how to extract information, and respond to questions in writing.
The syllabus year refers to the year in which the examination will be taken.
We have redeveloped our Cambridge International AS & A Level Chinese offer in line with current best practice in languages. This change offers clearer progression routes based on learners' level of Chinese through closer alignment with the CEFR framework. We are withdrawing Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language (8681) to replace it with our newly designed Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language (8238) syllabus.
The last assessment of Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language (8681) will be November 2023. The first assessment of the new Cambridge International AS Level Chinese Language (8238) syllabus will be June 2024. We communicated this change to schools in June 2021. You can read the communication here.
In the June series, this syllabus is available in administrative zones 4 and 5 only. In the November series, this syllabus is available in all administrative zones. Please see our Guide to making entries in Direct for more information.
We provide a wide range of support so that teachers can give their learners the best possible preparation for Cambridge programmes and qualifications. For teachers at registered Cambridge schools, support materials for specific syllabuses are available from the School Support Hub (username and password required).
