In response to your feedback, we are introducing some changes to the performance bands used on Cambridge Progression Tests and Checkpoint.
From January 2023, we will replace the existing Gold, Silver and Bronze performance bands that we currently apply to Cambridge Progression Tests (Stages 3 to 9 inclusive) with the following new performance bands:
There is no change to the types of report we provide. We will continue to report learners’ results at a question, strand and sub-strand level for all four subjects – English, English as a Second Language, Mathematics and Science.
The new performance bands will automatically appear in the Reporting dashboard when you upload Cambridge Progression Test results to the lower secondary support site.
From May 2023, in addition to the new performance bands, all Cambridge Checkpoint candidates will be awarded a score out of 50 (rather than the current approach which applies a score out of 6.0):
There is no change to the reports we provide; we will continue to report individual and group results at a question, strand, sub-strand level for all four subjects – English, English as a Second Language, Mathematics and Science. All Cambridge Checkpoint learners will continue to receive a Statement of Achievement, and schools will receive a detailed report, summarising the cohort’s results.
Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests are available at the end of Stage 9.
Learners will continue to receive a Statement of Achievement.
Schools told us that using two different approaches for Cambridge Progression Tests and Checkpoint is confusing. Applying the same performance bands to both assessments means that schools can use results from Cambridge Progression Tests to help inform learners’ about likely performance at Cambridge Checkpoint.
Additionally, by using an integer for the Cambridge Checkpoint score – for example 35 instead of 5.3, it’s easier for teachers to convert scores to percentage, making it easier for parents to understand how their child is performing.
