At the lower secondary stage we want to support our schools to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that suits their context, culture and ethos and that they can tailor to their learners’ needs.
We are delighted to introduce four new subjects to our Cambridge Lower Secondary programme:
- Art & Design
- Digital Literacy
- Music
- Physical Education.
Together with the subjects that are already available, the four new subjects provide more opportunities to develop creativity, expression and personal wellbeing in a variety of ways. They continue to support the development of the Cambridge Learner Attributes and students will develop skills and understanding in each subject area that help them to become more versatile and effective learners.
As with our existing Cambridge Lower Secondary programme, the new subjects have been designed to be culturally sensitive. By extending our offer at Cambridge Lower Secondary we are providing a wide foundation that supports progression to more subjects at Cambridge Upper Secondary and to other educational systems.
The Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum continues to be flexible. Schools can offer as many subjects as they wish and use them alongside a school or national curriculum to suit their local needs and context.
The new subjects will be available to registered Cambridge schools who offer Cambridge Lower Secondary. If you are already a Cambridge school you can start to teach these subjects immediately.
