Find out about being an assistant examiner
The role of the assistant examiner is integral to the success of a marking window and Cambridge will support you throughout your marking session to ensure you have all the guidance you need.
As an assistant examiner you will be part of a team which marks candidates' scripts and will work closely with your team leader. You can contact your team leader throughout the marking session should you have any questions or difficulties with any aspect of your work.
For paper based marking you will attend a standardisation meeting which will be held shortly after the examination (or towards the end of the period for speaking tests) date. This is where the principal examiner will discuss and finalise the mark scheme with all examiners to ensure consistent and accurate marking. Also for paper based marking only, you will need to appoint a checker to ensure that the recording, addition and transfer of marks have been carried out accurately.
For on screen marking, standardisation will be completed as an online training session which will also take place shortly after the examinations date.
You will mark a specific number of scripts to the required standard, and complete all administrative tasks within a pre-set timescale in line with approved marking instructions.
You will be required to prepare and submit a report to your team leader/principal examiner.
The majority of our papers are marked onscreen using RM Assessor software. Where this is not the case the examination papers will be posted out to you to be marked.
You will be supported throughout the entire process by your team leader and also have access to our dedicated helpdesk which has expert staff on hand to answer any questions you may have about your marking.
You can also set up job alerts which will advise you when we are recruiting for Assessment Specialists with your area(s) of expertise. Please note this link will not work using Internet Explorer, we advise you use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
