About our Teacher Guides
This page contains samples of our Cambridge Primary Teacher Guides.
Full versions of the Teacher Guides are available to registered Cambridge Schools teaching Cambridge Primary.

Each Cambridge Primary subject is supported by a Cambridge Teacher Guide that supports teachers in the planning, implementation and management of Cambridge Primary.
The guides provide a general introduction to the content, structure and underlying educational philosophy of Cambridge Primary. Each guide offers step-by-step guidance on the planning process and advice on different areas of classroom practice such as differentiation, assessment and monitoring.
Each guide also brings together sample lesson plans, teacher training activities and information about further resources and support available from Cambridge.
The Cambridge Teacher Guides support teachers in implementing Cambridge Primary in five key areas:
Each Teacher Guide provides advice on how to plan. They demonstrate how teachers can cover all the curriculum content for each stage and provide guidance on long-term, medium-term and short-term planning.
Resources include detailed guides on different planning approaches, and teacher training activities to develop planning skills further. This information is supplemented by sample schemes of work, sample lesson plans and planning templates that teachers can adapt and use.
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.23-25 – Creating a medium-term plan
Cambridge Primary Maths Guide P.32-33 – A complete example of a short-term plan
Cambridge Primary Science Guide P16-17 – A completed example of long-term planning
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.165-6 – Short-term planning template with notes
The Teaching approaches section considers some of the different ways that teachers may choose to deliver particular activities throughout the year. It is not prescriptive, but encourages teachers to consider different learner styles.
The guide is supported by training activities that help teachers to think about how to apply different approaches in practice.
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.36-8 – Section 3.2 Active Learning
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.78 – Training Activity A3 Preparing and Delivering a Lesson
Each Teacher Guide explores the types and role of assessment. Explanations are given about formative and summative assessment along with practical assessment techniques that can be used in the classroom. Advice is also given on assessment options available from Cambridge.
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.44-5 – Using formative assessment to raise achievement
Cambridge Primary English Guide P.53-6 – Assessment available from Cambridge
The ICT section helps teachers to consider which areas of the curriculum may benefit from ICT and where this may offer the best added value. Suggestions and examples are given showing how ICT may successfully be linked with the Cambridge Primary curriculum for each subject.
A detailed appendix gives specific ideas showing how ICT could potentially enhance each stage of the curriculum.
Cambridge Primary Maths Guide P.59-61 Introduction to ICT in Maths
Cambridge Primary Science Guide P.110 Appendix - Opportunities for ICT in Stage 1
Each Teacher Guide provides advice on classroom organisation and developing strategies for the effective management of learning. Teachers are given suggestions on how they can support learners during different activities and how to create a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
